Modellbau heute , mbh for short , was a GST monthly magazine that dealt with all facets of model building. The first edition appeared in January 1970, the last edition in September 1993. The publisher was the GDR military publishing house .
The aim of the magazine was to publish construction plans of ship, car and airplane models monthly in the form of detailed technical drawings and assembly tips. In addition to hobbyists and model builders, students' working groups and apprentices were also intended as addressees. Model building was viewed by the general public as a sensible leisure activity and as preparation for a job or military service.
The editorial part always included a report on GST model builders, events and reviews of international competitions. Another category was devoted to the subject of model building electronics. Literature recommendations, tips and tricks for self-construction and handling miniature tools as well as sources for materials (e.g. electronic components, adhesives and casting resins) supplemented the practical part. Exchange offers, advertisements and pictures sent in by model builders were published on the last few pages.
